ZOMBIES NEEDED

"So Darren, what's Mel doing today? Writing her blog that no one reads?"

Hey!!!! Blog writing is not my weekday 9-5 shift. Blog time is my special Sunday evening pastime; couch, laptop, glass of wine and The Apprentice LA in
the background.

OMG
!! Maybe I do need to mix it up, perhaps I need a Wednesday afternoon entry, written at Sta
rbucks with a fratte latte, just to spice it up a little.
Have I become the text book stereotype of a blogger? Number 3 below concerns me greatly...I don't want to become depressed.

blog (bläg) n. [short for Web log] 1. a website that accommodates easy and frequent posting on any topic; 2. an online platform for personal anecdotes, criticism and discussion, often featuring links to other websites; 3. an outlet for obsessive personalities, depressives and alcoholics.

It is nice to be sitting on the cushioned couch, I am a tad sore.
Darren made a big mistake today...Oh Sirree!!!! What was he thinking.
Everyone needs their time out. We have always favoured independence in our relationship and the chance to spend quality time either with independent friends or alone. Now considering we currently don't have any friends, we rely on our time alone to stop us from driving each other a tad batty. I have shops and neighbourhoods to explore and Darren has special ride time to go out on his bike and explore the countryside.

Today was a big day, I got a bike (my reason for being a tad sore). Could I now invade Darren's one chance of solitude and personal discovery?
I was quite excited about the purchase, it's been along time, since primary school. Back then I had a 10 speed bike that Matt (brother) decided to sell in a garage sale after I made the mistake of not removing it from the garage during the sale. (Don't feel guilty about that though Matt), the timing of the garage sale coincided with the compulsory introduction of the yellow stack hat. I would never have ridden my trusty 10 speed bike again.

Darren will always have his special time, there is no chance in hell that I plan on conquering the hills that he chooses to subject himself to.
(The picture above clearly illustrates the ridiculous heights Dazza is happy to climb...it's not that I can't, I just choose not to).
I made the comment today that perhaps I could do triathlons, for which Darren reminded me that I am totally incapable of breaking through any pain barriers. It is the reason that Darren also bought a new bike today, a 3 speed cruiser from Wal-mart, just cheap and slow enough for him to be able to go at my pace.... slow.

A cruise along the Embarcadero was my introduction to bike riding in San Francisco. If I had to place this ride on the following scale:
1-------------------2-------------------3---------------4---------------------5
No Sweat..........Easy....................Novice........Intermediate...............Pro

It would definitely have come in at 1 (perhaps even -5). It is only a short matter of time before I conquer California Street which I would place at ..... oh let's say 10.

We walked up California Street on Friday night to go to Top of the Mark Bar. It was my first real hike up the famous hills of San Francisco. I am learning the art of layering. The night started with a chill, but from the time of ascent to reaching our destination I removed 3 layers of clothing... Don't despair I didn't end up looking like I was shooting a Target lingerie commercial ( I so wish I could at least say an Elle intimates shoot but that would just be lying).

It was a nice evening with Champagne and a beautiful view of the "dud side" of the city. We were excited at first that we were showed to prime window seats but shortly realised we had a gorgeous view of suburbia and not a magnificent city skyline.
The walk was well worth it and now we have the expert inside knowledge to request the correct side of real estate next time we visit, perhaps with our first overseas guests... hint hint nudge nudge.

We did have our first house guest this week but he was American, so it doesn't really count. Darren had his first official quarterly sales meeting since his has been employed with the company. So his friend/colleague Todd tested out our new sofa bed before the boys headed off for Mountain View Holiday Inn Express for a few nights.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE......
Smarty Pants Dazza (maybe beginners luck) was awarded the quarterly award for 'Consultant of the Quarter'. A quick way to peeve off your new workmates for sure.

At least he has workmates. I too will have workmates, hopefully in less than two months. I have signed up for a few income raising schemes that I am 'kinda' able to do. I have my first market research gig next week. USD$65.00 to watch new pilot TV shows for 1 1/2 hours, that I can do.

I have also signed up with SF Casting to do extra work. My first job listing I was emailed as soon as I joined was:
Zombies Needed
Special / Male or Female / All Ethnicities / 15 - 100 /

We need lots of individuals interested in putting on cool, ghoulish make-up, walking around like they're dead, and attacking and eating the flesh of living people.

I must have made a real impression.

The following was a job listing posted to the website 5 minutes later but WAS NOT emailed to me specifically, like the one above was:

Cheerleaders / Baseball Promo

Background / Female / All Ethnicities / 18 - 36
Thin, Fit & Attractive Women, Union & Non Union to fit to cheerleader costume sizes 2-6 ONLY. This is a specific size casting; do not submit if you do not fit to size 2-6. You must be available all day Saturday 4/21 from early AM hours to evening hours. Shoot will last 8-10 hours in SF. We will notify you if selected.

Of course I am not going to read into that..... at all. Otherwise, d
epressed I will be and then I will only have alcoholic and obsessive personality to tick off before I become a fully fledged blogger.

Couple of quick shots of our apartment below. Keep in mind we are keeping it simple.
And a shot from the balcony towards the city.

XX
